Tour Chelsea Galleries: With NY Times as Your Guide – or a Live Guide
As we’ve mentioned before, Chelsea has a myriad of great galleries. This vast choice can sometimes feel overwhelming.
We have two options to help you solve that wonderful woe!
(From Becky Suss’ exhibition “Homemaker” at Jack Shainman Gallery. )
These tours are lead by art aficionados (scholars, teachers, curators, and critics). You can see unusual works, unfamiliar galleries – and without involving any planning or research on your end. The only legwork you’ll have to do will involve the walking to galleries.
Dominated by dominoes and colorful concentric circles with a cent sign at the middle, this painting by Mission School artist Chris Johanson suggests that life is a game, with cents and/or sense at the center. Scenes from everyday life – a bedroom, a suburban storefront – look like they could easily disintegrate into the surrounding abstraction at any moment.
