Enlightening Film Festivals

Cinepolis Chelsea is a site of two upcoming exciting week-long film festivals!

October 24-30 brings NewFest (also at The Center).

And November 8-15  has DOC NYC (also at Chelsea’s SVA Theatre, and IFC in Tribeca).

NewFest is the 30th Annual LGBT film festival, presented by HBO, which features over 140 films from 32 countries, as well as panels and parties, with attendees from all over the world.

Watching yourself reflected on film is a resounding experience. It’s rare for many people to see that – and rarer still if you don’t fit into “traditional” societal boxes.

The festival showcases narratives, documentaries, episodics, and shorts which portray a variety of compelling stories – shining a light on the LGBTQ experience. The organization gives “voice and visibility to the full spectrum of the LGBTQ experience by championing films, supporting storytellers, and engaging audiences in order to inspire dialogue, shift cultural bias and empower our diverse community.”

Whether you were always a fan of documentaries, or have been converted by recent films like “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” and “Three Identical Strangers“, for documentary lovers, “DOC NYC”  is where it’s at.

In its 9th year, this festival celebrates the form that encompasses “reportage, memoir, history, humor and more”. It features hundreds of films, filmmakers and special guests  – as well as an 8-day conference for documentary professionals (DOC NYC PRO).
